After the Light

A blanket of shadows covers the countryside
As the nighttime wonders dance over the hill.
Ever so swiftly they will continue to glide
Filling the air with an always pleasant chill.
The bright stars are watchful eyes in the vast darkness.
They are the overseers of the nocturnal world.
Viewing this place with an unearthly bliss,
Night’s curtain has finally unfurled.
Then the moon forever races across the sky,
Using the horizon as its eternal finish line.
Gleefully lingering until dawn is nigh;
A temporary gift of calmness given by a friend so divine.
