Iraq: Going All To Hell

Bomb blasts hit Baghdad as US military toll rises
October 04, 2006

At least 12 people were killed and more than 80 were wounded today during a series of bomb attacks in a Baghdad shopping district, which officials said were intended to target the convoy of an Iraqi government minister.

A woman sat weeping over the crumpled body of her son, refusing to allow police or rescue workers to take him away, while officials warned residents to leave the area for fear that more bombs were planned.

Two buildings were severely damaged and dozens of shops destroyed, according to witnesses.

Elsewhere, five others were killed in attacks across the country, while the US military announced the death of two soldiers – the latest fatalities in what has been one of the bloodiest spells for American troops this year. One of the soldiers was killed by enemy fire near the northern city of Kirkuk and the other by a sniper in eastern Baghdad, both yesterday.

At least 17 troops have been killed in combat since Saturday, including eight US soldiers who died in gun battles and bomb blasts in Baghdad on Monday -- the worst day for American forces in the capital in a year.

Yesterday alone, at least 53 people were killed across Iraq

-O-

It’s not getting any better,
in fact it just gets worse
More troops dying in Iraq
This is chaos, Bush’s curse

Day after day mayhem and death
Trauma, dismemberment and horror
Meanwhile the lies go on
Justifications made, claims of error

The politicians keep on distorting
Trying to make that skull smile
The rictus mask of Iraq
Escapes all their guile

Sooner or later the entrails
of his bloody mistake
will writhe out from Iraq
and Bush by the throat will take

So many have died now
because so many lied then
So many have been traumatised
Sent back minds paralysed

And all to create a terrorist haven
and a way for violence to grow
The seedcorn of deaths to come
that the wiser heads did know

What we had were right-wing hotheads
and neocons with pure ice in their veins
A hellish combination
as Iraq blows out its brains

It’s a long long way from Washington
to the killing fields of Iraq
And don’t you know that’s how Bush wants it
as his pretence begins to crack

He wishes you’d ignore the dying of the troops
and believe all his lies
You see they believe in very little,
stifling all those cries

Put on a happy face
and say it’s going well
When all the time you really know…
it’s going all to hell

Your poem was very well written and astute. For once, I basically agree with you. But what is your or our solution to this mess? Would complete withdrawl accomplish peace? Will the terrorists and AlQueda leave? Will the 3 religious sects in Iraq start to behave in a peaceful and respectful way? Will or can democracy work in a country such as Iraq? If not democracy then what? I also agree that Bush will leave office as a very unpopular president but in my opinion he is a misguided but not a bad man.

Irac is hell!
I think they should line Bush-n-the leaders up together, personally over there and let them deal with each other and May God have mercy on us all.
Great wrriting as always, unfortunatly sad but so true.
huggs, prayer,
emy

Will AlQaeda leave? Well they weren't there before were they. And just cos CNN says they are now, are they? The actuality of everyday life in Iraq is supressed by our "gallant" media and their "brave" reporters. I exclude Fisk, Pilger and other genuine journalists that actually seek the truth. Anyway comments! Great poem that invokes debate-I like. I'd just written and posted a short poem before I read this one and I have Iraq and crack as a rhyme too! Such poetic syncronicity.... Keep up the great work.

Great political write. Couldn't agree more with your sentiments on Bush. I don't believe 90% of what my government tells me or the news media for that matter, when it comes to government activities, of the U.S. Bottom line....people are dying and it's wrong. I've learned our government lies and lies a lot. However it suits them. Sneaky bastards. Grrrr I hate the lies and the war and folks dying for nothing. Truthful write, my friend.
Peace, Laura

I love your writing style, but I support the president because he had a tough choice to make and he made the choice he thought best. I feel bad for all the presidents, all of them. I bet most we're hated in his time. God bless America. He's the only one who can save us now.
