Pray for Death

Contributed by bobotheclown on Saturday, 15th February 2003 @ 04:00:00 AM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

He sits there, blood dripping from his mouth
His arm jerks and whipes it around
He mutters to himself
So he can say he has a friend
The ache in his soul grows more each day

Salty tears run down his face
Burning, aggravating the cuts
People turn away, not wishing to partake
Spat upon, but you have feelings to
All you need is this little corner

You'd die if you could
Razor to dull and blunt
To break through your sand paper skin
You gnaw at your wrist forgetting
All your teeth have rotted away

Succeeding in getting slobber on your wrist
Lick at it, lick at it
Make people dance around you
Your eyes portray the horrors
You've witnessed, to dead to commit another

Walk past the houses bursting with wealth
All you own is this aching stomach
You'd knock, ask for food,
But you'd be greeted by those dobermans
Straining at their leash

Your fingers claw at the dirt
For what you don't know
They think your crazy anyway
Your mind begins to atrophy
The hunger drives you insane

Starved of love
Rejection burns a hole
In the tattered remnants of your heart
Crying, crying you lie down
And pray to any god who'll listen

They don't let you in the church
Starved of hope and life
You pray for death
And swiftly her wings come
And you welcome her presence
Knowing you won't be missed

no offence joel, i've read nearly all of your poems but for me this is the best poem on a poetry and imagery level i have read by you, totally excellent, the way it develops from the point where it begins to its end is just class, beyond that the empathy of despair and hopelessness make this an outstanding poem for me, have read it a few times now and will be coming back to it again
