Your sweets are made of floss
- dissolving too quickly
that little note with the word ‘Sorry’
- too thin – it tore
love, Ha! you only parrot Shakespeare
- messing up the lines
and you show your skin to tease
- yet I see 40 years hence
you’re just another human
- spent your money to look good
you’re just another human
- and didn’t do for learning
this, and with your broken promises
- you come to me
because I dress well
- a warm smile
the hint of a wider world
- in crystal blue eyes
a boy with radiating confidence
- a beating heart
lips always full of kept words
- a taken hand to horizons!
And still you walk
- towards me
exposed, tanned mid-drift
- lazy and beautiful eyes
teeth white like the moon
- hiding a forked tongue
and still you walk
- always approaching
never to understand the structure tongue
- in my mouth
God! How I amuse you
- charming, you think
but your sweets are still floss
- dissolving too quickly
your hair becomes limp
- in the humid air
and time will steal from you
- those good looks
there will be nothing then
- to offer
all of this I can see
- 40 years hence
I stand, placing my drink down
- walking away.
