Early in childhood
the realization came to me
kept me awake in a cold sweat
– one day I shall die –
I cramped up
felt my chest tighten
this world; with all its glory
~ that acorn seed on my windowsill
~ a strange coin found in the soil
~ a caterpillar I named
– the weekend drive
~ deep into the temperate forest;
all of this will be lost to me
when the heart stops
when my eyes glaze
and the mind full of wonder
~ finally finished its impulses
all of it – Dust!
some before
some after
~ my own passing
and none of it means anything
to anyone, but to the person I was
~ a moment lost
the breath lost
~ over my final birthday cake
and nothing matters of it
~ nothing to anyone else
Yet everyone else told me
~ of the important things
to take 45 hours a week
~ from my life
for that wage alone
to live buttoned-down
when I may never feel that breeze again
or dance with a pretty face
~ on the beach
~ music from an open car
Respectable at all cost!
– even at the cost of my breath
~ the most precious thing I have!
A thought; an acorn seed
to me, in early childhood
that makes me uncomfortable in a suit
and turn my back on personal pain
and gives me a romantic heart
~ seeking out the passionate people

I like this.
I see it as a moment, a moment of realisation and the flashbacks that came in that moment.
Like... 'my life flashed before my eyes'
I really like this. It makes me wonder what my moment will be like, if I ever have it.
Of course, I could be completely wrong and have totally misread the poem.
Even if that is the case, this is very well written.
Great write,
*hugs*
