Standing Guard

Two hundred soldiers standing guard high in
the mountains of Afghanistan.
The longing for home and family is ever present,
but we do the best we can.
Our enemy is elusive, and reluctant to
show his face.
We hear stories of Al Qaeda, IED's and
RPG's, and if they strike, we won't know
the time nor the place.
All we can hope for is that every man
here remains vigilant, and never let's his
guard down.
For through vigilance, and the grace of God,
each of us will go home to our families,
safe and sound.
Mother Nature is not cooperating.
The cold and snow she deals us,
has come as a surprise to some.
With the unrelenting winter,
we are cut off from the outside world,
and much needed supplies have yet to come.
We long for word from home.
Attempting to keep in touch with reality,
we wait in vain for our mail.
All the while, we fight boredom, complacency,
and homesickness, in what seems like
an earthly hell.
Two hundred soldiers standing guard
high in the mountains of Afghanistan.
Time is testing us, and soon,
we will know the measure of every man.

I don't know if you are there now, or if you are home, but you have made me feel guilty (thank you) for not yet writing my hubby. He's been gone for a month. We are so pampered here in the States, most really have no clue. Every reasoning seems so chaotic, and at times justified. Whatever be right, there are those who are sacrificing not only their own lives and well being, but also their families'. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you and your unit have/had done for the world, regardless of why. And this is a good, positive way to channel your feelings and experiences. God bless! |
