Selfishness

Contributed by LonelyPoet on Thursday, 21st September 2006 @ 06:25:08 PM in AEST
Topic: AngryPoetry

Is it considered selfishness
When all you want is to hear your own?
When your poems are all you read
And never respond to the others needs.

So many heartfelt poems I've read
The authors have much to be said
Some may be good, some very sad
Some may even be very bad

They share their deep artistic souls
Similar to living in clear fishbowls
Welcoming,cherishing your remarks
Even if they come with a very loud bark.

I leave comments quite often. But have been told in a pm lately that I am hypocritical, well as we say in Northern England" balderdash "
I love all poetry, good, bad or indifferent, The emphasis being, the poet has created a masterpiece of their own words, and should be congratulated on that, so I give a fair comment. Your poem my friend speaks the truth in a very inspirational way. Yes you give credit to everyones work, no matter the content. That is being human. Thank you for your words of wisdom. Sue x

Nice little comment - one of which I totally agree with you about.
I really like the line "similar to living clear fishbowls" - very nicely put.
As someone who has a lot to say, I'm always looking for a conversation, or at the least, a comment. I knew an established poet a while ago who had never in her professional career read another persons work - could you imagin? Must be either pretty boring or very self-centred. We lost contact because there was nothing to talk about...
Good write!

- Tim

too true, people should leave more comments epically to those authors who have little of them.

good work

This is quite true. I 've posted a few poems with no comments. It hurts to think that no one thinks it's good enough to talk about.
Good Write!

True true, in all aspects. However, its a reciprocal site, and if people don't comment on other poetry on a 3:1 ratio they can be restricted from posting. That aside, comments of 'nice' or 'I like it' or a criticism without explanation are less than useful.

I think the number of comments on this one show that the low and no commentors are few and far between.

I totally agree with you... I do however believe if
I don't like a write or the content I will not post that
comment... I have read more than I comment on.
This doesn't mean I am not reading them...
I follow the 3:1 ratio... Sometimes I am right on
the ratio others I am clear ahead of that...
That said, I feel words of encouragement are heart
warming to someone who has just put their Heart out
on the line...

Thank You for this insight... Very nicely done...
It is my goal to meet a new poet every day...
Thank you for making my list...

Bill

I get tired of people whining about comments..while they do that, they could be reading and commenting themselves.
There are still people who have multiple accounts too..so if they comment twice on your poem..how do you know? LOL
Any subject is great for a poem..if you want to use your talent to gripe and grumble; that's up to you...:)

Sadly, this is still true to this day and still runs rampant. It seems it's even worse to me than in previous years. So many people joining and just posting their work without interacting. And yes, it is indeed selfishness in my eyes.

However, may I point out that commenting on your own work, as you have done here, really isn't much better .

Thank you for posting a well stated poem.

Tim
