Mumma Kitty

Contributed by Man_On_High on Wednesday, 20th September 2006 @ 10:36:38 PM in AEST
Topic: PetPoems

You did not long enjoy
the unexplored wonders of this other Eden-
you.. of the purring green-eyed persuasion
skipping in and so abruptly out of so many lives..
running rash off into feline eternity
under the bouncing wheels of a country trailer.

No more than a kitten yourself girl..
and those who became maddened at your early courtings
are thankful for the parting gift you gave..

three carbon copies as souvenirs

to help heal the wound of your passing
in a purring concourse of caring.

Nevermore will you wake
those who loved you from futile dreaming..
your velvet presence
padding over their faces
miaowing them back bleary-eyed to reality-
wanting not their meagre comfort
but to share your warmth with them
out of the sleek largess of your nature.

Sea and sky will be melancholy for a while
with you not there to distract
from the due contemplation of your beauty
by insisting that we look first upon your own..
and for the first time in many months
their mornings will be undisturbed by your gait.

The home you'd just begun to rule
is louder only by your sudden silence
until the three gentle bequeathed little reminders
begin to fill your own furry void.

for Mumma Kitty May, '04 - til now
..and the family unit~

Sweets ... I was so touched by this piece.
Very kind and beautiful sentiments within, hun.

Yes .. pets become such a huge part of our lives, don't they?
And what an incredible tribute you shared here.
So sad, lovely and glorious all at once!!

Diversity should be your middle name .. lol
unbelievable range!
(you are a ceaseless wonder)

Billy,

Not quite puuuurrrfect (had to do that before anyone else) - 2 spelling mistakes, and I couldn't help but wonder at the double entendre in the last line. And it doesn't help that I'm a dog person, but I still love cats and this is a heartfelt and beautiful elegy to your fallen moggie. I'm cough'n up furballs, man, furballs.

Such joy our little fir babies bring into our world. Such devasting sadness when they leave us, yes they are people too my kind of people. I have a few sullen tears floating down my cheeks. I have never nor will I ever read something so touching and soft in my life. You captured moments that came to life for me while reading, precious indeed.

Thanks for being you!
HUGE HUGSSSSSS

Well, I must say (in spite perhaps of a certain lack of affinity for cats, and a bit of an overabundance of them around here), this is a fine piece of work. Your wording is very well-chosen, tender and polished. All in all it was a very enjoyable and, aye, touching portrayal not only of a fine-sounding animal but of the part of the human mind that reaches out toward them. Ah, the strange intricacy of life.

Slàinte!

You do know that when they read you many, many years from now they'll have lengthy, empassioned discussions about symbolism and word choices, potential allusions to (seemingly) unrelated things, possible metaphorical interpretations and the profundity of thought embedded in each piece, right? Believe this, poet - for I believe it to be true.

Ah, Billy... all I will say of this is... it is, I think, how we should all say goodbye when becomes necessary to do so. This is so lovingly of her and, dare I say, you as well. Beautiful, it is, in many ways. Quite so, yes.

What's this 2.45 rating after eleven votes on, as Spike said and I copy in agreement, "purrrrrrfect'??!! So much for the rating process here at YPDC! Last night our tom cat (was mountain feral 'til Marti got hold of him) didn't return as is his normal routine and we heard coyotes in the canyon in yipping celebration of consumption and feared the worst. Thankfully he was at the door this morning though. This piece is a beautiful work of art, Billy!

This is so beautiful, I almost cried. My poor mamma kitty, who died so young, left behind a carbon copy herself who we are so thankful to have to remind us of our sweet, beloved cat who fell over the wrong fence and didn't survive. Thank you for this wonderful, heart felt poem.

A warm and wonderful and well dedicated piece of work to the feline. They believe they are the therapeutic healers and I can't argue with that.
