I’m walking swiftly past St. Peter,
Through the gates adorned with lace,
Disappearing are the blemishes,
That once pockmarked my face.
The blinding beam absorbs my soul,
As the angels pluck harp strings,
And there is no gravity or time,
Nor binding worldly things.
And as I’m led into the room,
Where forever I will dwell,
I’m witnessing a beauty which
My verse may never tell.
And Saladin and Pope Gregory,
Lead their people in a truce,
And everyone is free to pray
To Allah, Yahweh or Zeus.
And the slaves are sipping cognac,
While the masters beg for bread,
And Bobby Sands is smiling bright,
Now he’s free, and overfed.
Romeo caresses Juliet,
Reunited in eternity,
And says, “My dearest Juliet,
How badly I missed thee.”
Hitler has tea with Ginsberg,
He’s been cured of bigotry,
Allowed to enter paradise,
On the grounds of insanity.
Beethoven hears his Ode to Joy,
As his eyes well-up with tears,
A pride which he was deprived of,
For nearly 200 years.
All walk naked feeling no shame,
And there’s ne’er a push or shove,
There’s no more sin or sadness here,
Just harmony and love.
