To a soldier here in Iraq,
it's not the war, I dread or fear.
Nor how soon, I may face the enemy.
It's the waiting, and the silence, for
the mail I don't receive, from my loved ones,
that help keep my mind at ease.
I think of home, and family there, and wonder,
what they'd do, if someone bombed
the country,
that we love, dear, and true.
I don't like the job I have, but I give thanks,
to God in heaven, that I'm not fighting
on American soil.
I wonder, if they have forgotten me,
now that I am gone, and wonder, when I'll
next receive, a letter sent from home.
You wonder, how I know so much,
of what they think and do.
Well, I'm still sitting here,
in Iraq, and
I am, that soldier to.
