The Guys

Contributed by oneir8dude on Monday, 11th September 2006 @ 12:17:47 AM in AEST
Topic: Tributes

We lost 350 on that September Morn…
So many not present when their Child was born…

They were ordinary in an extraordinary situation…
The cause was good and it was life in motion…

They got their call and through on their boots…
Grabbed their helmets and donned their suits…

They didn’t plan to leave us that morning…
They went to save when they got the warning…

That’s what they did without a second thought…
Scared as we, but did what they were taught…

They ran in as all ran out…
That’s what their job was all about…

We usually lose 6 in a given year…
And what I learn brings a tear…

We lost 350 in one hour…
When we lost the second tower…

How can anyone get over that…
I forget when I slumber then I’m back…

Are you okay, I remember that…
Everyday after that day I just sat…

With my head in my hands and tears running through…
I went to ground zero and didn’t know what to do…

The commotion was frightening….
The dust and emotion not settling…

Not only they died but others…
Mothers, sons, dads and brothers…

Others ran out but they ran in…
To remember that the healing begins…

September Loss

Its hard to understand just how courageous ordinary people can be in extraordinary situations, and how their surviving colleagues and families find (or don't) ways to cope, to go on, even to go back into burning high rises. Firies, as we call them in Oz, are real modern day heroes, alright.

I'm writing this from half way around the world, but 9/11 could have happened in my backyard, it touches me so emotionally. Good poem, very human and respectful.

What a really beautiful poem..a very nice honour to those who bravely ventured in..selflessy..giving their lives to save lives.

A heartfelt tribute to that horrific day. We lose sight of how brave our service people are in all aspects of the field.
