I Cannot Promise

Contributed by weepingprophet on Saturday, 9th September 2006 @ 09:45:52 PM in AEST
Topic: goodbyepoetry

Curtains drawn, this pity stage showcasing yet another spectacle of us.
My vigorous hero, clenching me in your iron clad hands.
A mindless knuckle, here you are again, forming a disasterous fist.

I buckle under the impact, oh sweet reminscence.
It is another blunt awakening, subject to the callouses of our love.
Tender viking, you pound the hurt sorely into my flesh.
A desperate machine gunner, gaurding your turret of ambition.
Open your eyes, stale warrior, you're still shooting blanks!

Loving you is slapping me, across the frail cheek bones that are
pale and weathered from my stormy eyes.
Constant clouds of abandon lurking behiond every blink
Forcing pools of denial to flood the main gates
and reluctantly travel into the openess.
Vulnerable am I, a unarmed adversary, weak and committed.

Questions to you, and life.
Where would I be if I refused to stand
after another brutal beating?

Do not get the wrong impression, this body keeps no shameful secrets.
It is not that you have ever marked me with your hand
Nay
It is the constant and repetitious impact of your disasterous fist
clenched tight with truth, bounding reality into my devesated callouses.

You are to abandon this battered girl to become
an honest and endearing Marine

I rise from the floor, marked as solace
So many nights cherished on the cold stage of self-pity
You, you've become something more than an ill-tempered Devil Dog
You're something far greater.

I will feel you fall, in the nights coming
and without hesitation clutch my sides
from the crippling pain

Remember me in this light, as hopeful.
And return without expectation
For a well weathered woman
will not neglect to rise before you
And I just cannot promise to take anbother beating
for the sake of your dreams and destiny.
