Scholar
~
I’m staring at your picture,
Of you’re first day of school.
In your kaki pants and blue shirt,
You looked real cool.
To my mind come flooding,
Memories of that day.
When to keep you from seeing my tears,
I had to look away.
~
We stopped by the lockers,
Just outside your class.
To grab a quick picture,
And share a nervous laugh.
Then hand-in-hand we walked,
Into your classroom.
And I watched you from a distance,
Like an over anxious groom.
~
You hung up your jacket,
Placed your book bag on the floor.
And waved goodbye,
As I walked to the door.
Your mother and I,
What proud parents we are,
As we watched through the window,
At our new scholar star.
