So why do I write?

Contributed by twbanter on Friday, 1st September 2006 @ 06:37:59 PM in AEST
Topic: obsession

What makes me write
What makes me want to share my sight
What in the hell puts me out there
It sometimes seems so unfair

What makes these wheels turn
What gives me writer’s burn
An itching to get every word right
Is it a talent unrelenting
Or just a blight
Or maybe it’s a curse
A doom I’ll have live with
For all my life

Why do I verse
All that I observe
Can’t I just go on normally through life
But Oh you haven’t heard
These incredible words
That describe they way I see things in this light
Yes it’s a curse
But one that gets me by
And I hope sometimes
My writing will fly

It’s a plague on me I just can’t kill
It’s a crazy addiction
That constantly swells
It’s like a nail in my tire
An inborn dreaded desire
Because it lays bare
The emotions that I tell
And people get to know me
Way too well

Well, I don’t know why I do it
I’m just constantly drawn to it
I can’t even take a walk
And not see life that talks
And that life just inspires me
And makes me write poetry
Even if it’s lame it means something to me
Or something that’s untamed
And labels me insane
As usual with all creativity
And scars me my whole life
‘Cause no one seems to understand me
So if this is a curse
I suppose it could be worse
So I guess I’ll carry on
And let it be
And continue to write
Whatever strikes me

I write my words for no selfish reasons. It helps me alleviate my worries, and share my happiness.
Not insanity that makes us write, just a need.
Good write. Sue x

Oh I love it!

"It’s a crazy addiction"
It most certainly is!

And I agree, it does seem like it's just a need to write. Without it, I don't know what I'd do...

It's a great thing though and you are wonderful at it!

Good write!
