So I walk a little different
Don’t talk like the president
I may be a little bit apart
But I know that I’m somebody
I’ll always be me
Don’t you see
There ain’t no getting away
From the fact that I’m free
I might just take me fishing
I just might give a listen
To the all facts
You’re trying to tell me
But don’t get upset
Don’t let yourself regret
Anything, I just choose to leave
Cause I’m my own man
And I’m free
(Chorus)
This freedom isn’t cheap
It’s cost us oh so deep
And if I could
I’d take the place of them
But I know it’s not my time
So the chosen now will shine
And I feel so useless
In this heart felt remedy
Oh I know you feel
Exactly just like me
A child walks to the front line
He’s wearing a great big gun
But doesn’t want to kill, a single thing
But war will warp his mind
Historically, time by time
No matter your allies, or your friends
And you know he’ll do
What he needs to in the end
Just sticking to his duty
And come right back again
And it’s times like these
Courage like that
Or else freedom won’t reign again
And we’d all be living
While tyrants rule our land
(chorus)
He marched into battle
Never questioning his freedom
He knew he fought for the proper side
You know he was heroic
And did what all the else did
And suddenly, for his country he died
And the brothers in his company
Put his body aside
And they dipped their heads
And quietly they cried
And they all knew it could be them
And they felt so numb inside
(chorus)
Now home in a box
His parents’ cry
The neighbors flock
Round the hero, coming home again
He paid the great price
Like those before him did
Now he’ll lie down with
The best that ever lived
This story plays out through out the land
And there’s nothing you can say
to the woman or the man
Who lost their son
In someone else’s land
(chorus)

Hope to hear this song on the radio one day. It speaks to the heart in so many ways. The price of freedom does not come cheap. Each one of them that have given their life in our defense and the defense of others are truly heroes.

Good write. I do not agree at all with war and wish Bush would get all our folks back here. I have a friend, who got back from the war, a lost soul. Saw too much, things no man woman or child should ever have to see. I wish all the soldiers a safe trip home.....everyday their names fill the papers, though. Those who died and shouldn't have.
Peace, Laura |

I have read a few of your poems already and have to say that I like your style. At first when I read this, I was taken back by the word, 'aint'. I know its in the dictionary, but I just don't like the word. Then I realized it was a song, and the more I read the more I started to get choked up. My hubby is at War, and I miss him a lot. Thank you for sharing this. |
