Questions in Life

Contributed by Alison on Wednesday, 30th August 2006 @ 03:09:15 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

No one ever said that life was easy,
Yet no one ever said that life was hard,
As the seasons change, life changes,
As the wind blows in different directions,
So life moves in those ways,

When the leaves die the snow comes,
When the snow melts the grass grows,
When the grass dies the rains come,
When the sun sets the moon shines,
The rhythm of life goes on

People come, people go,
People live, people die,
People walk in and out of lives,
In the end all die alone,
What is the meaning for it all?

Money is made than spent,
Stuff, things, all brake, fade,
Fashions come and go,
Beauty is fleeting,
Why get more of things that don’t last?

Love, hate, fear,
feelings come and go,
Memories, dreams, goals
All come and go
What is the meaning in it all?

If I knew the answer, who would listen?
If I gave, who would receive?
Life is a gift I have been told,
Sometimes you meet the right person,
just at the wrong time…I have been told,

Where is the reason in that?
In life and death?
There is this something in between,
That is only measured by the passing of time,
That which is called LIFE……

So what will we do with it?
Who will we become?
How will we be remembered?
Is it worth it all?
For what reason?

From the biology student's point of view - a life has meaning in that it can pass on genetic information to the next generation, maintaining genetic diversity in the population... hehehe... mouth full no?
Still, as a biology student, I don't believe that this is the only way of things. It is a rather small way of looking at things.
However, if you've seen some of the amazing things that I have or been in some unusual places, it kind of changes you. Many times in my life I wished I was dead - a couple of times I tried. But at the same time something has let me down, the day burns out in an amazing sunset or a bird just sat with me, sharing my lunch or I see a little old man in a walking frame walk out before huge trucks and buses and bring the whole road to a stand-still... Life is full of wonder and I'm looking to take in as much as possible.
These things have never left me and if anything, have made me stronger. I carry little baggage and am more upbeat than most I know.
Still, to cause me to write a short essay, it must be a good poem! :o)
I'll have to pan back through more of your work!

- Tim
