dreams

Dreams
Though dreams are not real they do reflect reality
I had a dream once that I couldn’t see you
I screamed at you so loud your ear drums cried crimson tears
As they rolled down your pale cheeks
I reached out and touched the soft skin of your face
I felt the tears of blood and it was cold
I pulled away and you asked “What’s wrong?”
I could not reply for I had broken my voice box screaming for you to listen
And now I cannot tell you that I love you
My vision becomes no longer black and begins to return to a normal state
Though I know that I love you so much that it hurts me because I feel it in my heart
I’m excited to see your face because I do not know your face
As I rub my eyes and wait for them to adjust to light
I am shocked to see who you are and I am in disbelief
You have a body of human but a face of mirror
I then woke scared and confused on a bathroom floor
Then I realized that I hadn’t looked into a mirror for some time because when I did myself was not what looked back at me
Some where along the way I adopted the notion that I was not worth even my own love
Drugs had diluted my blood into cold grey water
This is when I realized my dreams were the window into the soul I thought I’d lost
My soul was reaching out for me just to look at it again
Once I did I never looked away
And now my blood is beautiful red
The only cold grey water I see comes from a cloud in the sky
And drugs no longer hide from me the beauty of my soul

Okay. THAT was powerful. And I don't hand that phrase out liberally. It may be because I've been there (in a diferent way) but it still screamed volums of heartfelt despair and then relief to me. Though not very "poetic" in the rhyming sense so to speak, it hits home hard! Nice write!
