The memory of an empty man (the immensities of longing)

Crawling through the door,
Came ambition, swift;
Came crawling through the door,
A wicked simple, soft delight;
A sadness in my decision
To move on,
To rend page from page
With gnarled, wooden fingers
And the memory of an empty man,
Who in my dreams; who in my thoughts;
Who in my fleeting fancies sought,
Some slim incision
To slip beneath the sleeping strength
Of sound and speech, and sieve my soul
Of bleak expression,
And force upon my will,
And force upon my hands,
The immensities of longing.

You poem truly got me into the realm of deep thought. I feel the emptiness and sorrow of the narrator. Good use of alliteration! I am still anayzling the poem now. Thanks for creating such a thought-provoking poem! |
