Broken Angel

Topic: SadPoetry

A silenced giggle in the woods, a splash of red against a leaf. You've hurt yourself again babe. All because you feel like a slave, held to the world, but by what? You fell out of heaven, but you'll never know it. Will you leave me here to wonder, wonder what happened? Why'd you do it? The dripping from your veins, why babe? I should've known when you went out; your long sleeves, loose clothes, the odd pockets and shoes?! Never have you worn shoes for the trees. Those clues should've tipped me off. Blindly I let you go, my hurting angel. No one saw the pain in your eyes, the glittering green of the trees you so dearly loved. Inside you cried and died, but only on the inside. We saw the smiling and beauty you showed us, but only because you covered your pain and tears. Not once did we see the battle, the conflict raging in your soul. You never even hinted you suffered, that our little angel was consumed, burning alive by Satan's hand, by ours. Coaxing you into what we thought right, slowly we broke away your holiness, the innocent light that shone from your eyes when you smiled. The purity and innocence no longer shields you, and we are to blame. The snake inside you is because of us. All that and more crosses my mind, spoken by an unseen voice of wisedom. You tremble in my arms and sob, tears mix with blood on the forest floor, the only sanctuary you ever knew, now defiled. Whispers travel on the wind, we're never alone. Shouts carry, I cover your form and hide you. Melting into oblivion in my arms, you still hear the sighs and sounds, the tortured souls around you cry out. Remember the innocence, the love, don't give in to our evil ways babe. Fight it! Angel I'm sorry for all this. While you will never admit it, you know. You know we did this to you; we broke you, our little angel. So now you lie in my arms, a bleed and dirty form, but still alive. Opening your hand, the blade falls. I pick it up and smile sadly at you. Even when you commit a sin, Christ is on your mind. The cherubim and thorns of the blade tell us, you'll always have an angel looking out from your eyes. Slowly your eyes open and we see, the emeralds of the deep reflecting in your eyes. You show us all the soul you really carry, the pain and sadness you feel. I realize you are an angel from heaven, our own little angel. Sent to earth to help us, to save us. Oh babe, I never wanted to hurt you, to brake you. Did you have to break for us to see? We won't let you go back in vain, for your tears have washed us clean. Never again will we let Satan bring us down, control us. Too bad it took your blood and hurt, to make us even a little like you.

Our Broken Angel
