'History is written by the victors' (Winston Churchill)
The world is a flicker of lies,
From strangers who seem so wise
The truth a tailored reality
Of those who can claim victory
All the pain and all the loss,
Lacquered with a surface gloss
Perfect teeth and unctuous diction,
Is all just someone else’s fiction
For some that will suffice,
But I’ve made my own paradise
I’ve turned my back on all the pain
And gone wool-gathering again and again
Stargazing as the world rotates,
Or dwelling in altered states
For in my fantasy-laced haze,
I’m imagining better days
[Chorus]
Let’s live the lie
And dream the dreams
Reality isn’t what it seems
And if you don’t want to stay
I’ll dream you did anyway
So raise your glass to the great pretence,
Adrift in pleasant circumstance
Where happy endings always do
For imperfect souls like me and you
Its easy keeping the world at bay,
In denial throughout the day
And sleep provides the warm embrace,
Of loving arms and perfect grace
[Chorus]
Let’s live the lie
And dream the dreams
Reality isn’t what it seems
And if you don’t want to stay
I’ll dream you did anyway.

I agree, mate. Half of beauty lies in darkness, and it is the pleasant little facades that we impose over everything that make life pallatable.
Keep the situation dark, let the tinsel linger-
thats how you'll create the universe. |

Great poem. You've gotta be young. Only the young can think that way. Reality keeps interfering with us old folks. Responsibility - what a tether. Really a great poem though. |

Hey S~
This write got me all sortsa worked up .. first, I have to say I absolutely ADORE the picture!!
The living within a dream dilemma .. so carefree, lovely and exactly what we want, right?
Is it folly to dream we can have both? Is it more prudent to just accept our fate and not
wish beyond that which is wishable? Dream beyond that which is dreamable? Want that
which is beyond attaining?? No, says I. Wish big .. want big .. DREAM BIG ~ always!!
Our convictions and iron will are to blame (or credit) for at least half of what we can
and do achieve.
Exceptional piece. You move the mind to profound thought, spike .. relentlessly!!

(*grins* See why Rox and I get along so well?)
There is, I tend to think, way too much reality in every day. I spend a fair amount of time avoiding those parts of it that I wish to be otherwise. It is not, though, denial... but rather hopeless, libratic optomism. I believe, as Roxie does, one must dare to dream - for in so doing, possibility is realized. To allow the vision of what you want, I truly believe, brings you half way home to it.
I adore the second stanza here... and the chorus with its perfect last line. This whole of this piece touches me, as I believe it would anyone with dreams. Nicely done, poet.

Everything seems so "unreal" these days - so Hollywood and with so little substance or beauty. When I was young I thought humanity was on a different course - peace, love, inner beauty - but somewhere something happened - a wrong turn in the road - I'm thinking it was Disco. hahah
Lovely poem my friend.
