Lonely Lilly
Lonely Lilly stares through the window,
Watching the world go by,
As the children play outside,
Her inner youth it comes alive,
She opens up her door,
And calls us from our games,
With a smile so full of warmth,
Calling each and every name,
In her hand a bag of humbugs,
She places one in every palm,
Kisses all upon the cheek,
In her eyes a loving charm,
She talks about her youth,
And the days of horrid war,
Then she asks "How is your mother?"
As she leans against the door,
As it rains she calls us in,
Her home a relic lost in time,
Antique's upon the mantle,
As the clock begins to chime,
On a table in the corner,
A teapot upon a gingham cloth,
My eyes are drawn to the sound
Of the chiming of the clock,
Lilly, lonely Lilly,
Her wisdom shows upon her face,
Everyone she ever loved,
Now shine with heavens grace,
But we all stop to listen,
To Lilly's long lived life,
But Lilly, lonely Lilly,
Is still lonely in the night.
