The Goddess Durga Killing the Buffalo Demon, Mahisha (Mahishasuramardini).
Rising, as if the sorrows of the world
Were feathers instead of tears,
She arcs across the heavens in cold flight
Fractioning out the weight of it all
In funeral wails and hot kisses,
Sighing legions into existence
As she gestures aside fear,
The great beast bearing her onward
To set right the three worlds
She carries it all in her heart and hands,
A lotus flower of conveyance
Draped in a montage of beauty,
A patchwork self of all that is bright and good
Drawing the long bow of truth
And taking sight of ignorance,
Her quiver stuffed with guarded moments
Her trident of calm power,
A shared eye fixed to the destroyer of hope
As she lightly steps from mount to battlefield,
And into history.
Author's note: Durga was a composite of the best of the Indian gods pantheon, brought into being to fight a demon who had conquered heaven, hell and earth. Having slain him where others couldn't, her purpose fulfilled, she ceased to exist (as is). As such, she represents a restorative, feminine balance to masculine energy run amok.

I'm not up on Indian myth, but you are very good with words. |
