On Hold

Contributed by justme03 on Monday, 7th August 2006 @ 03:59:15 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

over exposed
photos
lying on the floor
screaming
words i can't
speak anymore.

the opening of
old wounds
with an inky black
pen. running
away again
& again.

lights
camera
action!
smile
for all the
world to see.
hide the
tears
and ignore
the fears.
this charade
is getting old
& my soul
is feeling cold.

warm me up
fire on the wick
to warm up quick
nice smelling candle
this heat i can handle
send some smoke signals
& I'll get back to you later.
cuz this story is on hold.

"crappy"? .... nahhhhhh, I don't think so. : )

We should thank your therapist for the suggestion, I believe. It's not a bad idea at all, you know. It is that which you cannot or will not write about that weighs the heaviest (and takes the greatest toll), I think. Writing is expresson, of course - but it is, too, a processing of events, emotions, thoughts... a means of moving on. It delights me entirely to hear that there is a therapist out there that would suggest poetry as a viable solution!!

You are not alone in this endeavor, by the way. Anne Sexton, an incredibly prolific and gifted poet, began writing in her late twenties at the suggestion of her therapist. Her work made an enormous difference - not just for her, but for poetry as a whole. Though her end is certainly not one I would wish for you - I delight in the work that she (and you!) gave us as a result of such an insightful suggestion.

Good luck with the remaining nine... and the self discoveries that may come for having laid them down.

Keep writing -
~Snemmy

It's not, how you say? Crappy...No...It's good, very good indeed. You underestimate your talent.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
