No Goodbyes

Contributed by spike on Monday, 31st July 2006 @ 03:47:05 AM in AEST
Topic: PetPoems

Footsteps on the staircase
As he left without a fuss,
His wife and daughter were bade farewell,
But not the rest of us
The parrot blinks his ebon eyes
Crestfallen and bereft,
The goldfish mouthed their goodbyes
- But he’d already left

And me, the most loyal,
Waved away with slight of hand
His suit he thought I’d spoil,
Sometimes I just don’t understand
Where does he go to, and
Why am I left alone?
I’d call around the neighbourhood
- If my paws could reach the phone

But I’ll wait beside the window
With an ear cocked for the door
Just like when he left yesterday,
and all the days before
For most nights before the sun sets
On our quiet suburban den
My master makes his grand return
-The pack is whole again.

I think pets do have feelings, they are like humans and miss friendly company. This was a really enjoyable read. Sue x

I have an affinity for animales - ..am a 'dog-man' at heart
and have felt much remorse at the many lonely times they've endured when Master is away, having had many myself-
..and that they are "loyal" is kind enough to say,
but dogs, (and all pets) are far more that that..
whether or not they know it, they become friends.. full-fledged family members.

Your write was an all-too-seldom thankful dedication to those who would love us ALL, without condition..
PETS ARE PEOPLE TOO!

Regards..

Billy
