The Day He Died

Contributed by MissDebra on Saturday, 29th July 2006 @ 09:06:06 PM in AEST
Topic: Grief

awoken by the news i was immediately ill
unable to move, forced to be still
a nervous wreck the entire way
not knowing what to expect or say
walking down that hall shaken by fear
to enter that room and see you there
lying so quiet, so lifeless and still
knowing you had done this on your own free will
wondering what could have hurt you so bad
what could have caused this pain that you had
facing the fact that this was not dream
it was real and there and just as it seemed
sitting beside you and holding your hand
watching the end come for such a man
someone i loved and cared for so much
how could you do this was i not enough
it doesnt make sense you wanting to go
no goodbye or i love you - no way to know
crying in hope and begging you to stay
pleading in tears for you to not go away
and still you walked onward without looking back
you left me alone in this world of crap
you left me to do what you would not do
live out this life and go on like a fool
i stayed right beside you up to the end
i lied right there next to you in that hospital bed
they all said i would not make it even one day
it was figured by everyone that i would go the same the way
and yet i am here still calling your name
fighting myself to not do the same
facing these times, these moments of truth
afraid i might find i am too much like you
