The Air is hot, my skin is wet
Upon my lips a salty sweat
I stand in the garden where my flowers bloom
And wonder, where my rose has gone
I had in my garden a black rose
And all my joy did in it abode
T'was both night and day my constant care
Lest I blink and find it was not there
But in the heat its petals scortched
And I've roared until my voice is hoarse
For a change in the weather
and can but watch as beauty withers
In the winter struggle blossoms are easy won
Then the spring raises a joyous song
But for all my toil each summer come
I return to find my rose has gone
Now I taste neither summer fruits nor feel the winter cold
For the song of spring I feel to old
My life has become a constant autumn
Bare and empty with no rose blossom
