Red clouds rising,
A white sphere in play,
Leather’s getting slapped,
On the field today,
First base,
Second base,
Third base,
Home,
No one’s fooling,
They’re here to roam,
Late is the night,
But slow is the game,
Old men converging,
On the young man’s plain,
As silent heat,
Engulfs the town,
They swing their bats,
And wail around,
A small crowd cheering,
Their family and friends,
No fans yelling,
For these has-beens,
But easy is the night,
Both teams leave proud,
No one plays for contracts,
In this small town.
