Life's Sculpture

Contributed by Manda2 on Saturday, 22nd July 2006 @ 03:02:26 PM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

When the ultimate craftsmen hands first sculpted you,
When his generous breath first began to fill your being,
When this unique precious creation was to become you,
When you were presented the wondrous gift of seeing,
When you came into his world to spend your days,
When you took your first breath of his sweet given air
When your life was new to live in all your own ways,
When the people who now love you were not yet there.

You didn’t have a say in where or when you would start,
You didn’t have a choice of what you could become,
You were wrapped in a blanket with a new beating heart,
You were blissfully unaware of what was to come.
You cried your first tears but would never know why,
You kicked your tiny legs but never felt any real strife,
You didn’t understand that you were living to die,
You never understood that this was the start of your life.

Now you have to make sense of the years gone past
Now you have to understand events of days, months, years,
Now you have to be there for your life’s entire cast,
Now you have to try to cope with your life’s woes and fears.
Now you have to find strength to accept what has already been,
Now you have to swim in the rapids of a river of regret,
Now you have to make use of tools made from what you’ve seen,
Now you have to bury the misery so you’re allowed to forget.

But you must understand that when the almighty created you,
He gave you a strength that you would have to find,
He gave you the ability to understand what you must do,
He knew you would know that he never left you behind.
He knew you would come to realise the irony and beauty of life,
And to take the lessons scattered and hiding in light and dark,
He knew that you would one day climb over the fence of strife,
Clambering to conclusions that would one day complete your mark.

You are loved and so many puzzles are broken without you,
You are needed and so many joys are only had because of you.
You are wise and those around you know you have the answers,
You are talented and can jump the hurdles and still run,
You are the breath that was essential for so many lives,
You are the past, the present and the future to come,
Because you are now the ultimate craftsmen apprentice,
You gave us life and now we are here for you.
