Silver strings of silence
Float upon the lilting breeze
And mix into the autumn mist
With children’s macabre melodies
And summer’s death and pumpkin spice
Scent the northern wind
Zephyr is long gone
As Boreas descends
The trees are decorated
In hues both gold and red
The flowers say their last good-byes
For they shall soon be dead
The children are quite sullen
For school must start again
But although they hate the book work
They love to see their friends
But in this scene of crisp details
There sits a lonely child
Who watched all the other kids
As they laughed and played and smiled
No friends had she to call her own
Though many she did see
The written words of long dead men
Were her only company
The sun beams down between some clouds
And highlights her desperate plight
As she tries to hold back tears
From the other children’s sight
“The Three Musketeers” is on her lap
Open and tear stained
As the teardrops freely flowing
From her eyes they rained
The teacher calls
“Come inside, recess is at an end”
And the girl walks back to the room
With her friend in her hand
How many of you have seen this child
Though only her likeness it may be
And walked on by without a “Hi”
Pretending not to see
Take a second glance, smile a bit
It may have made her happy
and wonder in your heart of hearts
if that child was me

Beautiful imagery pervaded this poem...and even tho I thought the ending was a bit sad, it was an enjoyable piece. Thank you.

I very much enjoyed your description of autumn coming in and I also know what it's like to keep the company of long dead men and women. I would feel for this girl because I see that she is one of my own kind.
Unlike her , however , I've found much comfort and laughter from those brilliant people , dead though they may be. enjoyable and touching. take care , doug

the way you write, the things your words say.
they seem to have an expression that can be inked on the wall.
I think. they are as your name. |
