A Word, A Language, A Culture

Contributed by wangari on Friday, 21st July 2006 @ 09:29:13 AM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

A Word,
so simple, a verb
like a leaf, wind blows
upon deep waters it bellows
Floating upon tongues
Hanging onto every utterance
A word, A language, A culture

A Language,
A new dialect, a new doggerel
A rolling pebble, it gathers all
twisting and turning
Leaving its host frail
A virus in the making
A word, A language, A culture

A culture
a new life awakening
scattering, dumping, forsaking
a mighty culture, scuffling
Declaring, a tribes crumbling
Existing pasture conquering
A word, A language, A culture

Lovely piece, I especially like the layout, very effective! It is so sad that tribes and cultures that go back thousands of years are torn apart and destroyed this way, you've worded your thoughts and emotions about the subject very well, thanks for sharing, 2sdyx

Wonderful parallels of growth and demise in language and culture and their interdependence. A terric poem - well laid out, a treat to read, with a subdued aura about it. This is the kind of poem I wish I wrote myself. Definitely 5/5.
