When I am Down

What do I do when the world seems grey,
Under the duvet I hide away,
Turn off the phone, turn off the light,
So no one else knows of my plight,
I think of ways to allay my fears,
But still this demon does appear,
Making me feel the anguish and pain,
Once again I feel the strain,
This evil takes me in its grasp,
No sense or reason can I clasp.
Its a road to ruin, a pure dead end,
I am lost, No one to call a friend,
At night when I give in to sleep,
The demon digs his claws in deep,
Nightmares come, no rest for me,
I scream in anger, Let me be,
In the morn, through lack of sleep,
my body is tired, my resistance weak,
Confidence wanes,but not my ardour,
I will survive, I must try harder,
So with head held high to work I go,
Try not to let my real feelings show,
Paint on a smile, show no frown,
Let them think , I am not down,
Then home again , at the end of day,
I hope this evil will stay away,
Let me be,Give me release,
Oh Demon let me live in peace

I like this, it's a bit different than the usual 'I am down' poem I see on here.
I like the hope there is in it, and how I can relate to a lot of it. Especially the part about hiding at work.
The idea of 'down' being a demon is also clever.
Good write.

Sue, this was painful to read, if only because I relate
so well. I do hope the Demon WILL let you live in
peace, but it seems to me throughout your write,
there is hope. Hope within the strength you possess.
