Silence

Contributed by True on Sunday, 16th July 2006 @ 09:11:44 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

The silence is deafening
Roaring in my ears
“How long?”
A voice nags in my head
“How long until the silence consumes you?”
“How long until the silence is all you have?”
I tell it to be quiet
But that is the last thing I need
More silence
It began with talk
Talk and laughter
But it is gone
Greedy Silence
It is never sated
Always wanting more
Always there is more silence
Silence, destroyer of worlds
How many families are torn apart by silence?
How many causes are left to their struggles because of silence?
How many years have people lost to silence?
How many more?

Welcome to YPDC, True!

As my user name might imply, I lived in silence for a time and can absolutely appreciate the pain that comes of doing so. I often think that many of us here began writing poetry because it was the only way we could find to break the silence.

Silence, yes, is defeaning. It is painful, it is frustrating, and it feels, at times, unbearable... but the good news is - it isn't eternal. It takes time, I think, to move beyond silence... eventually, though, most do. Hang in there - and hold on to the belief that when the time is right, the silence will disappear.

Finding this relatable,
~Snemmy

I love poetry that asks a question.. or several of them. People intrigue me too. Yes, silence can be greedy. It can take over a life and that is part of the my wonder is some people will eventually escape it's grasp but then some, stay there... until they pass on. Anyway, yes, this poem provokes much thought.

Take care ands thank you for an enjoyable read.

Tim
