The Story of an Everyday Princess

Topic: dedicatedpoems

Once upon a dream
Amidst the starlight and the hopes
A woman stands staring at her future
Wishing it weren’t so
Her childhood has faded fast
The door to her past is a mere crack of light
But still she dreams
Still hopes for the fairy tale
Still waits for the magic
It isn’t easy to give up on a dream
She wants her Happily Ever After
Her husband isn’t prince charming
She has never ridden a white horse
And she is often too busy to even notice the sunset
Much less ride off into it
Despite her hopes and tears
A fairy godmother has never appeared
And for some odd reason
She has never acquired a group of woodland friends
But before she goes to sleep each night
She imagines her castle
Perfectly planned
She knows the location of every window
Of every door
Of every ornamental rug
She fills it with the people she loves
And sunlight
And the songs of birds
Few know it but she was once a princess
Her beauty obvious
Her demeanor quiet and kind
She stands up for others
If not herself
I hope some day her wishes will be granted
And she can live her fairy tale
My grandmother in her castle
Of light, love, and dreams

This is a very lovely and beautiful poem. I really like the title a lot. Also, a very wonderful dedication to your grandmother and I love that you hope such a wonderful dream for her. I enjoyed it very much and thank you for sharing it with us.
