Final Day in May

Contributed by Man_On_High on Saturday, 15th July 2006 @ 09:01:39 PM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

I heard it on a plain undreaming day,
hunched over steel, a garnish for every delight
that never came back as flavor, as much as sight...

You had just died.

and the house lay in Sunday afternoon silence..
and out in the dull pavement-grey day,
they sulked or strutted about-
full of holy terrors and sublime sadness.
I'd nurse my headful of dreary waste,
half-hearing the erratic static of the gut-twisted fate:
that remote, disembodied, stilted voice, faraway..
jerking over the crammed and jammed airwaves
of all the man-made mayhem.

Such a sorrow is hard to share..
and that kind of triumph is seldom won.
I felt a momentary surprise;
surprise, that so early a life, should have such a closing,
so like any other-
as if beauty can ever know a close.

Yet I knew..
and now feel envious,
envious of your life and your dying-

a symphony only you could listen to..
a throbbing at your fingertips like light..
a vision beyond the crazy charade of sight..
a dream torn from pain that had in it,
all the music of all the birds
that ever sang in this deaf-mute world.

You who saw, not splendor in life,
heard such a marvel of music conversed
and saw each, a being of such beauty.

You shrank my shrill, little world to nothing
and now I lift my eyes to pain
and do not decline, that others feel the same.

Billy

Wow this is really strange that you write this poem at a time like this. A girl in my area that was only 18 died in a horrible car accident on Monday. (Which was my birthday)

hard losing that person whom was as close, as someone could be. I do all know, so well. Yes, my mom was as well taken at early age, 3 yrs ago, ecept April.! But.releasing, and still remembering, always helps.! Sad, write, yet written form the inner heart, with such fill of hurt, yet love.

I'm sorry, Billy... I can't imagine how you feel...

This is beautiful, in a melancholy sort of way.

I love the way you have with words. They can make the reader feel what they feel the writer feels. (If that made any sense at all)

Anyway, I like it.

Heartwrenching and thought provoking.

bro,

although we've discussed this briefly and the sadness it evokes in me...it like to reiterate; while reading this (we both know the subtleties this contains like no one else will), i found it hard to read through. to say that i was holding back tears is vastly understated. i could literally feel (possibly, hear) my pulse in my head...my heart was beating so fast. i remember this day vividly, the surreal quality of it all...and though we've talked about it many times, i hope this write helped in releasing some of your pain. know that i'm always there for you bro, anytime you need an ear (got that from you, today!)....or anything!

that and all emotion aside, i think this was a great write...that 1st stanza...even if i had no idea what it meant...is awesome...and the impact of that 4th line is like a blow to the face (or a chainsaw to the foot...lol..boris)...excellent post man,

till the wheels fall off,

paul

Sweet Billy, I know there are really no words that could ease your sorrow, but the fact that
you have lots of support must bring some comfort. I am always torn upon reading a
write like this from you, but know that within these words a release of sorts is inevitable.
They are timeless ... poetry and pain.

This piece is terribly affecting and disconsolate. Your pain is as resolute as is
your talent. If I could offer but one solitary comfort .. know that it is yours, hun.

Beautifully poetic ... albeit terribly sad.

here for you always~

I guess the pain does not really leaves us. Somehow managing to move forward, life is never the same. Young or old the death of someone greatly loved is grievous. Your well written words express the anguish of many.
