A 'Normal' Girl

Contributed by Bamber on Saturday, 15th July 2006 @ 05:23:49 PM in AEST
Topic: happypoetry

I'm just a normal girl
Who sings out of tune
But sings anyway
Let's her notes be heard
Though they lack the beauty some possess

I'm gonna let everyone hear what I have to say
I'm gonna make those sad smile real big
'Cause I'm just a normal girl
Who has so much to say

I'm just a normal girl
Who can't dance
But dances anyway
Just like no one is even watching
I don't care, I don't care

I'm gonna let everyone hear what I have to say
I'm gonna make those sad smile real big
'Cause I'm just a normal girl
Who has so much to say

You can laugh and you can poke fun
But I'm telling you, I'm telling you
I'm just a normal girl
Normal

I want to fly away
I want to let everyone hear me
I'll scream if I want to
I'll fly away if I need to
Because I'm just a normal girl, just a normal girl

And if this isn't normal
Then I don't know what is
Because you can laugh and poke fun
But I'll still claim to be
A normal girl

Normal in my opinion is nothing more than the arbitrary standard of a temporary majority. I know of few if any who were truly liked for being their true selfs , unless their selves happened to be agreeable to the falseness of their peers and in a world where differences are more often met with hate then acceptance I applaud you for being forthright and unique even if you have placed those traits under the banner of normalcy. I wish you luck and hope that you find individuality less dangerous an undertaking than I myself have.

Excellent write. I love how secure your sound in your own, flawed skin. It's so refreshing to hear somebody not giving in to conformity and buying into the impossible standard of perfection.

"Who can't dance, but dances anyway" That's a great line. I love the poem; it has a song-y feel to it. You're a normal girl with the guts to be herself. Great poem.

I would have liked to read this when I was a girl. Even though I'm 63, I try to be a normal girl now. Thanks.

Your poem has wit
your poem has meaning
inside is hiding
that girl that's bleeding

But, I'm messaging you to inform you
of what you already knew
that a normal girl can only be found
in that one special place called......YOU
