Un-happy poetry written by happy people

Contributed by FatBoy3000 on Saturday, 15th July 2006 @ 04:34:34 PM in AEST
Topic: happypoetry

A man asked a woman to marry him,
'Over my dead body' she did reply.
But this did not upset him
For all he had to do was wait for her to die.

But old age would take far to long,
So he ran her over with a horse drawn carriage.
And in the same day he took her life
He took her hand in marrage.

Abit of an extreme way to get someone to marry you. But it certainly made me laugh. Sue x

I don't know which is better , the poem or your comment on your own poem. What I love about this is the man's unshakable fortitude in achieving his goal and the author's audacity to critique his own poem and find it to be excellent. I too find excellent to be a fitting description. well done , doug

I have to tell you that I find myself grinning at the mere fact that you've placed a poem by this title in the "happy poetry" category. The decision to do so, certainly, aligns itself well with the style of the poem itself, which also makes me grin (and I say as much in an effort to express an appreciation for the tongue-in-cheeked'ness presentation).

There are, of course, untold many broken-heart-poems to be found. This is wonderfully unique and really quite entertaining. I must confess that I almost skipped over it for having thought, initially, that it seemed a bit simple. Then I read it --- and saw that it was not simple at all.

Nicely done! And WELCOME to YPDC!

I have to say that that I find this piece wonderfully entertaining.
It is without a doubt clever, amusing and shows in its simplicity more depth than many an obscure piece that I've ever read.
Bravo!!!
