Unblinking

Contributed by TheSpiritx on Saturday, 15th July 2006 @ 02:34:33 AM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

"I hate myself and I want to die."
It's bouncing all over my head
For those interested to know why...
I can't say why I want to be dead.

I am quiet about it, you see,
Because I don't want to disturb you
And keep you worrying about me
Or something stupid I might do,

But I've got these horrid thoughts creeping
Like an uncontrolled dream - the kind
That riles you with fitful sleeping
And that you just can't rid from your mind.

And you really don't know where
The ****** things came from
But you know they're always there
Like a demonic observer - some

Little devil on your shoulder
whispering thoughts into your ear
And this little devil that much bolder
When saying death is near.

Yes, he cackles out some comment
About how I'll die some day
And hints that maybe it is soon
And jokes that I should pray.

And he revels in my self-hate.

This tiny little devil,
That is my subconscious -
This stupid piece of evil,
Whispers to me with a hiss,

"I hate myself and I want to die."

It's late and I turn out the light
And I drop into bed thinking
That in the morning things would be alright
If they found me here unblinking.

This poem powerfully describes the
effects of depression. I really like
how you maturely explore self
hate, and use a tiny devil to help
explain those unruly thoughts
that really don’t come from you.
Once again, another excellent
write!

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
