To my mother

Contributed by glassicallyunsuperficial on Friday, 14th July 2006 @ 08:07:19 AM in AEST
Topic: AngryPoetry

I am
a paper;white piece
stabbed in the middle
crumpled creased
left struggling to breathe

They chopped a name atop me
gave me to you like a birthday present
and you received happily
yet now avoid like an allergy

It must have been fun
I was a superb toy gun
no, don't get me wrong
I don't blame you
I mean, who don't get sick and tired of some
ongoing fad?
certainly not you

How's your new toy?
Interesting?
I don't deny I'm erupting
with overwhelming jealousy
an envious pot is what I am
afterall
Turning pale blue to dark green

your spectacles upon your nose
pushed back
your greatest wish
was for both my sister and me
to be catholics
and that was what happened
on a good day

a bad day meant
a full day of abuses hurled towards me
I'm thankful
only my sister witnessed all my sorry, ungracious state.

In school
I held the record for crying
I was the most insecured
some people saw right through me
they used me bullied me
Ironically I also smiled the most in school
fake smiles

and everyday
I'm locked up
inside this unhappiness
stuck because
I'm too much of a coward
to run away

aren't you glad
at what a loser I turned out to be?

you were right.

I am sorry. Not much more I can say. but that you can't always believe what you hear (what a loser I turned out to be you were right). That is when you want to prove them wrong. I am sure you aren't a loser. Kim

my relationship with my mother was troubled. she was an alcoholic, my brother was her favourite, my sister was her baby and I was the black sheep. the middle child full of insecurities especially at school but i survived where others perished and it all seems a long time ago. i could relate to this poem, well done
