Forgetful Grief

Grief

I woke up this morning and forgot that you were gone,
When I turned, found the bed empty, I wondered what I’d done,
Why had you left me lonely, at this early hour of the day?
When lovers should be loving, and having things their way,
When the sheets should still be warm, instead of cold, barren and bare,
When I should turn my head, to find you lying there,
But then the memory flooded back to me, it pinned me to my pillow,
The pain of losing you hit afresh, so sallow,
If I could give my heart, for one night at your side,
If only things weren’t this way; that the Gods could be defied,
I miss you more and more, each morning when I wake,
That you could be here, to soothe this heartache,
The only one to ease this, is the man that I mourn,
That God could take me now, to the time when I’m reborn.

To be honest I wasn't expecting an amazing poem for whatever reason, but man was I surprised. Well done, really reminded me of a song.
Keep up the good work,

Well-written tragic vignette. Sad and poignant. Must be a lot of hearts waking and breaking just like this, all over the world. I hope some of them get to read this. |
