Midnight Calls

Contributed by NoSaint on Wednesday, 12th July 2006 @ 06:19:17 PM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

Yonder over lofty ridge
The village witch doth live
Peasants share their food
For advice she doth give

From how to catch a mate
To preparing to battle win
She sings and chants
As like a top she spins

But when the witch
At midnights hour comes
Their hearts beat
As kettle drums

For only then is it bad
The news she will bring
If the witch makes a house-call
It means a terrible thing

She never travels from her door
Unless death or disaster is at hand
Either way they shudder
If at their door she stands

The witch of lofty ridge
A wonderful soul bright
But striking terror to all
Who sees her at midnight

The witch is nice as long as she stays far away from me, lol. I don't wish to see her at my door at midnight, how spooky.

Well there are lots of witches here where I live, or so the story goes. Hopefully I won't be on her list. ha ha. Enjoyed this poem. Love spooky things. Sue x
