Dolor: A Variation

Grief

I have known the inexorable sadness of Gummi Bears.
Sealed in tight packages, dolor of sucrose and gelatin,
All the misery of citric acid and artificial flavouring,
Desolation in the colourful airtight prisons.
Lonely supermarkets, convenience stores, movie theatres,
The unalterable pathos of snacking.
Ritual of indulgence.
Endless sacrifice of sugars and yellow #6.
And I have seen bloodthirsty addiction spawn from the deaths of those bears.
Finer than fantasy, alive, more want than need,
Surging, almost invisible, through long afternoons of obsessive craving.
Dropping a lust for gelatinous bears on delicate tastebuds.
Glazing the minds of the weak; the minds of the people.
