Art (For An Audience Of One)

Contributed by Silent-No-More on Monday, 10th July 2006 @ 07:52:12 AM in AEST
Topic: poets

I may be Art
in the way that he was, she was
in the way that you,
most certainly, are –
in its truest form…
in its own brilliance,
a sun that blazes away
the yellowy shadows
and the unnecessary haze
of each new day.

I may be Art
spoken aloud in a bustling room
above the clank
of coffee cups
picked up and set back down
on wooden tables -
echoed in each scrape-sound
of every chair
as it’s drawn up closer
to this new stage.

I may be Art
that exists alone, for its own self
having found the virtue
of residing there
on the page, inside a drawer
of the small chest –
within which beats a heart
that grows with every word
laid down, timidly
by a new sage.

I may be Art
not just the end state creation of it
nor the beautifully endless
process of it
but by the natural existence
of a self
now too large to ever
be fully captured
and as yet unrevealed
in some new play

I may be Art
but am not the artist
nor the representation -
that partial truth
that bled out onto the page -
I am rather (perhaps)
an artful essence
only ever partly reigned
regardless of enumerable attempts
on countless new days

I may be Art
created not for itself
but existing regardless
to be seen, understood
by the one consummate reader
that doesn’t need the words -
the one that hears
what’s never fully conveyed,
the one that reads me
In a new and different way.

Yes -
I may be Art…

but if I am –
I am only…

for you.

Beautiful job, Snemma! Your wording is very eloquent and polished, as are the images. This was a draught of fresh air, to one who (for some reason) hasn't been reading much poetry lately.

There's a slight typo in the second line of the fifth stanza, in case no one's noticed it yet. No great matter.

Well done!

Andrew

Snemmy~

What a THOUGHT! Good grief, woman! [Do you ever have an ordinary one?] This is stunning. Truly. I am not even sure I can artfully place words in sentence structure to completely do justice to the beauty that this feels like to me.

I would liken this piece .. upon reading it, and the feelings thereafter, to ones which I might happen upon after viewing a Monet, or listening to a sonata by Beethoven .. or a symphany by Mozart, or even sipping one of Italy's best wines ...

yes, yes .. oh, YES!! This is sheer and utter e l o q u e n c e !!! You so easily can convey thoughts that, [I believe, anyway], most feel .. in our hearts. And that ending? Oh, my dear ... it is like a soft kiss. Delicate and beautiful and soooooooo emotional.

God, I love this one!

~Breezy

Yep, definitely art!!!! I find myself amazed at the descriptive imagery in this one. I felt I could hear the chairs being pulled towards the stage, the sounds of the cups, and I even felt the chatter of the crowd.

And if this is a thank you note (poem) it is obviously the most brilliantly mastered and conveyed thank you I have ever witnessed.

I really really think this needs to be on the "best poem of the day" thread.

Thoroughly amazing and enjoyable.

Really really, sincerely,

Timbo
(who feels I owe you a huge thank you just cause you shared it with us) :D

A beautiful what ever it may be because the writter is also the creator of whatever it was meant to be. well done covers everything and yet leaves room 4 the reader 2 imagine the possibilites. such a vast spectrum of intermingling emotions.

The given ART of writing a write, which is penned today. Yes, it does take a given talent to make a reader stop...and take "all" in which was presented. This is something tht not nother can ever copy.! Lovely post......

An impressive poem written by a true artist. How it strikes me is that you are art and that all life experiences around you, as you notice them, become then, art expressed. Art is your state of being, not just an expression of an activity,

Anyway, that's my perception. Great piece Snemmy

My own addage is:
Art: ..the expression of self.
There is none higher than this.
..the only other reason I can surmise..(besides vanity and or, foolishness) ..is the due reaction, and the energy we retain from it.
We, as poets..(artists, or whatever else) have more often than not, come into our own with certain impediments..
and so, like the blind have a keen sense of hearing.. or vica-verca, [we] as poets, have gained a certain preception that no other ordinary people possess.. and it is this, that marks us, alone.

Your muse is lucky enough indeed, to have this work dedicated to them.

Love and blessings~

Billy

So cool, so absolutely exquisite. The idea, the process, the product, the impact - where are we in all this, indeed. In the case of writing, so many things (existential, historical, biological, cultural, technological, situational) need to coalesce in a moment of awareness, then action. Then there is the happenstance of audience via medium, varying with insight, understanding and all their variables as described above. Phew! Its a wonder anything gets written, let alone then read, understood, critiqued, immortalised or used to wrap tomorrow's fish and chips. There is no independence of anything, and its all too complex, now that I'm trying to ponder it. Let's just say, this poem is as every bit as seductive as a love sonnet, and while I don't know Art, I know what she looks like.

What an intriguing palette that must have been as the finished product is a masterpiece.

This poem is pure bliss and the most eloquent and humbling 'thank you' I have ever been witness to.
You create poems that are tangible and astute, your thoughts never fail to impress with the emotions conveyed and the brilliance with which you link ideas together.

Thank you for the read,

Dom
