"Happiness is secretive," the music soaring sang,
"And secrets brew no happiness," the windstruck echoes rang,
"Belief redeems and hope prevails," each note informed the airs
"And blind faith suffers unseen ails," the strings rejoined in pairs
"But health and wealth and wisdom tides!" the melody insists,
"And healthy, wealthy, wise men die," the instrument resists--
And in the silence, second-sired, the latter 'fore the first aspired,
"To lose and love and lose again is better, better in the end;
To feed the flames and feel the fires, until the hearth engulfs the pyre--
To crash and burn and break and lend, the heart away and not defend
As shards the fragile, find amends, and one thing in us never tires,"
--now who's the Song and Who's the Lyre?

Nice internal rhyme, good rhythm and flow, I quite enjoyed this, even if it did leave me slightly clueless!!! Good one, it definitely is a bit of a conundrum!!!

Very clever and well contrived soliloquy. Funny that the title has a musical instrument as part of its structure and meaning (well, a percussion instrument). I very much enjoyed reading this one- thanks for posting.

Well rhymed again! You have a real talent my friend. I like the variations of rhythm and rhyme you utilize in every poem you write. Always engaging. |
