Goodbye to my dad

Contributed by waynster on Friday, 7th July 2006 @ 10:15:44 AM in AEST
Topic: Grief

It’s been two years
Since I wrote a poem about my past
Time is very short
And goes by very fast.

I have just received a phone call
From my brother in the USA.
In a fragile voice
He said dad has passed away.

At that moment
I felt my throat swell and eyes begin to tear
I knew this phone call From my brother
Was final and sincere.

Just then
Memories began to flow
We had our problems
But I did not want him to go.

Two days have past
I am feeling a bit confused.
Still thinking of my dad
And of the times I was abused.

Dear Lord please forgive him
As I have forgiven him too.
Please bring him there
To a special place with you.

Daddy if you hear me
From heaven above
Please watch over my children
Whom I know you dearly love.

I am so sorry
That from us you had to go.
I never truly showed you
But there is something you need to know.

You are my Dad
And I am your son
I never meant to hurt you
I only wanted to have fun.

We had our problems
And had to disagree
I had to move away
Only to let you be.

Time has passed on by
And we grow older every day
Those words my brother spoke
I did not want to hear him say.

I love you and miss you
In my heart you will always be.
There will be a lot of memories
In my mind I will always see.

It is the final time
to send my dad my love
I know you can hear me
from heaven up above.

“Good by dad”

Loving you forever.

So sorry for your loss, it's a cliche, I know, but I sincerely mean it, I lost my grandfather earlier this month, and know how much pain death brings with it. You express your pain and goodbye wishes well, all the best,

Tuesday xxx

Words from your heart, I am sure your dad would be proud of you.

keep his spirit alive by talking about him.

THOUGHTS ARE LIVING THINGS WITH WINGS. I BELIEVE.

WELL WRITTEN.

My Dad passed away a few weeks ago. Unfortunately I know, only too well, the heartfelt grief you are experiencing. Your poem was a loving tribute.
