Ting, ting, ting, the tin roof sounds.
Waking with a smile for the love I had found.
Yet, strangely foreboding, like tears somehow.
Rolling back over and snuggling closer, back to sleep for now.
Waking again the rain was gone-
But a threat of more lingered on.
Out and about on a treasure hunt.
It’s the mountain vacation and birthday lunch.
My little brother’s birthday today,
And mine is just one day away.
My love stole away when he had the chance.
I sat in the car and at the store I’d glance.
People scurried by,
To beat the storm hovering nigh.
Technology then rang in my ears.
My step-father calling, the foreboding reappeared.
“Call your brother” he said at first –
Creating confusion and worried hurt.
Suddenly, my mind was blank.
My heart sank.
My little brother’s birthday shot to hell,
For another brother’s ending bell.
In the distance I could see my love returning,
Unaware of what I had been learning.
Suddenly tears sprung to my eyes,
For the gift in his hand made me cry.
Was it irony of a cruel unfortunate fate,
Or gentle encouragement of God’s grace?
There in his hand a small clay vase
And two Lucky Bamboo rising through the top of its face.
