I am a Keeper

Contributed by yackerz85 on Thursday, 29th June 2006 @ 01:51:00 PM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

A cross bar and two uprights of hard steel are
joined at ninety degree angles.
I sacrafice my body to protect this metal rectangle.
I 'm garbed in my jersey of red and gloved hands.
When everyone else fails, I alone will stand.
I am one with the ground, the mud, and the grass.
I fear nothing. I have balls of brass.
When I'm on the field, I can feel no pain.
If its pouring, I won't even feel the rain.
I am the quarterback on the soccer team
I am a leader and I yell and scream.
I know when I'm scored on that it is always my fault.
I take on the responsibility of stopping every shot.
No matter what I will never give up.
Even p.k.s are able to be stopped.
I will fight to the end and not stop for blood.
I will get up when my face is in the mud.
Because I play soccer, and I am a keeper.

Seems to me that you enjoy holding balls in your hands!!

Seriously though, this is a very good poem and you do have an important role to play. I salute you.

About time some one posted some soccer poetry - it is the bloody World Cup and all! And a good one too (poem and wc)

I totally recognise the spirit and sentiment, the sheer will and discipline. Yes, the gatekeeper on the field of glory. And I am the striker - if you at my back I will defend you, but god help you if your'e in front of me. Ha!
