Liquid wet Sorrows

Contributed by Valerie_Pearson on Sunday, 9th February 2003 @ 03:00:00 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

Time slips away like an endless curtain of wind,
locking my thoughts into heartfelt tears,
which drip from my cheek,
only to go to gravity on the floor
and wash my bare feet with liquid wet sorrows,
I think so of you, with love and happiness,
but yet these years have passed without you,
do you know, you are in my eternal heart,
a want, I yearn so desperately to hold,
I cry alone at night, thinking of you,
the courage you gave through those years,
why had death's hue, taken you from me,
another tear falls, and your picture shares your smile,
you said we'd dance when I get there,
I hope so desperately, your promise is true,
but you were always true,
you were a great part of my life, I have lost,
as I watch gravity take these tears,
which fall again for you,
you were love, and I do miss you so,
I must now go on, others need me,
I know thats what you'd say,
but I will always have you,
because you were to me, my father!

Val I suppose it's different for us boys. My father was seafaring so I only saw him for a few days every two months. The thing I remember most he used to come up at bedtime and I used to say "Tell me a battle (WW I) Dad" and we'd shape the bedclothes to form Vimy ridge or Gaza or Gallipoli........
If I could visit those places now I would be able to follow every inch of the attack, where he was wounded, where he was
gassed, where he killed a Turk hand to hand
very different memories to yours. He was still at sea in WW II and in the Malta convoy (which lost half it's ships) not knowing if or when he got back we would be waiting, We (on Mersyside) were blitzed in September 1940 and agai in March 1941, dead bodies on our roof (the old couple who lived over the corner shop) empty desks at school. I couldn't get into the RAF quick enough (did in 1943) and spent the next five years learning how to kill people.
Val I tell you all this for you to appreciate that my generation grew up hard. We didn't cry much
I enjoyed your lovely poem, I love your tenderness in the face of the very hard times you have had to bear yet it has not hardened you I get an insight into another tender world
which I found hard to realise..
