My Downfall

Topic: Grief

You wanna take me down
You can't hurt me physically
I'll slam your carcass to the ground

You think you can out smart and confuse me
I'm too out there to touch
If you're not careful you'll be like me crazy

Here you come at me again
If you think changing will work well you're wrong
You couldn't harm my mind or body, I'm afraid of no man

So you come to me not with curses, punches, riddles or rhetoric tricks
You hold me close and you say you love me
You whisper in my ear, telling of all the pains you can fix

You touched my heart and brought me back to reality
Then you left me behind like a forgotten dream
Only after you had left I realized my mortality

You had mended my broken heart and filled in the holes
Without a thought you broke it over your knee and walked away
The insanity that drives me after tears up my soul

Now I sit in my world of mental alienation and bliss
I see you coming back to me and I smile, not in love but hate
My rebellious heart can't wait for your voice, your touch, your kiss

I stand to greet you with open arms
You smile and melt my heart and tears stream down my face
As we hold another I don't care that I'm caught in a charm

You stab me as we embrace each other
I stare with agony at the insidious look upon you beaming face
My mortality apparent and no place for cover

As I cradled my shattered heart, my sanity long since fled
You change to something else, a hated figure, my brother
My heart in splinters, my mind cracked, I can't hold both my heart and my head

I glance up to find you have left once more
But your smirk of victory and the laugh at my defeat remian
I ceased to exist save for a shell of a man, a husk without a core

You came to me in many forms like pictures on a wall
You hurt me in the worst way and I loved you for it still
I can't do anything without you, but I realize you are my great downfall

this is really deep and pure.

While every care is taken to ensure the general sites content is family safe, our moderators cannot be in all places; all the time. Please report poetry and or comments that are in breach of our site rules HERE (Please include poem title or url). Parents also please ensure that you supervise your children well when they are on the internet; regardless of what a site says about being, or being considered, child-safe.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
