The clock ticks in the therapist’s office
Focus in on the light, he says
As the clock ticks backwards, you enter a world so familiar
Yet so far away
..and so the journey begins again
Retracing your steps
From cradle to slave
A nightmare to the grave
We share one mind
A familiar chill
The voice to kill
The autumn of darkness into winter
Breathing heavy, I access my mind
The familiar faces, the ones so unkind
Memories assault my senses
I cannot defend myself from my memories
Into hell I descend
Voices scream - call out to me
The silence is deafening
Cold and lonely
Subconscious relapse, a strange sensation
This pleasant nightmare, a realization
I never healed my wounds

Princess,
I've never been in therapy either. The poetry was my therapy. I got alot of my imagery and thoughts from song. This poem is based on the album "Scenes from a memory" by Dream Theater. I listened to the first instrumental, and the words started coming out. All of this writing over the last 17 years have helped tremendously. I'm at a much better place mentally then I was, and I hope that your writing and others that you read help you if you need it. |
