It Was An Awful Crash

It was an awful crash
The scream rang in my ears
A child was hit by a bus
When the driver veered
Around the corner of Second
And Third
People came running about
I looked at my watch
And sneered
I was late for my appointment
“Don’t look so disappointed”
Says the man with books
“You’ve everything you’ve wanted
Nothing more then what’s deserved”
I reach for my coat
It began to snow
I listen in on the radio:
Something about a building
Burning from the 7th story on down
I light up a cigarette
I have my daily subscription
To the local news
I read through and through
I sip on my coffee before
Work every morning
At the factory I call mine
It’s the money it’s the machines
Production lines chasing
My American dreams
I’ve done so well
For myself
I passed by the liquor store
To catch an early train
The drunks revel in dry conversation
I’m so out of place
I picked up the paper
I caught a glance so sad
The front page I read
“The Economy Has Gone Bad”
If that wasn’t the worst that went down
The second page I found
It was my factory that burned
Seven stories to the ground

You did a great job of making me dislike this guy and then at the end when it was his building that had burned....well, guess you could call that poetic justice....
Overall a good read. It kept my attention and caused me to feel a variety of emotions. Good job!
